Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis and treatment.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient’s clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member. Participates in Universal Protocol prior to procedure.
- Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times by using lead shielding and collimation devices. Wears radiation monitoring device as required by the Medical Center, as well as state and federal regulations. Serves as resource to others regarding radiation safety.
- Provides supplementary support to a licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiographic procedures.
- Demonstrates competency and knowledge in methodology of venipuncture including visual activity and digital sensitivity for vein selection and accurate manual dexterity to work with small needles and accurately place them in patient’s veins. Identifies and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
- Functions in all roles within the procedural area including scrubbing, circulating and documenting as well as post-procedural hemostasis care. Observes aseptic and sterile technique principles throughout.
- Assists in monitoring the patient throughout the procedure and takes appropriate action as necessary to maintain patient safety and quality of care.
- Provides instruction and information to the patient and family and includes them in decisions to obtain the desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirement:
-
Graduate of a Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) accredited radiography program or equivalent.

Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
-
Maintains active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.

Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
-
Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support within first 90 days of employment.

Preferred qualifications:
-
Cardiac or Vascular Registry/Certification
-
1 year Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology and/or Vascular experience
