Executive Director Clinical Operations

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Executive Director of Clinical Operations provides strategic and operational leadership for all clinical departments and services within the hospital and will collaborate with King’s Daughters Ohio (KDOH) Site Administrator for operating room and PAT oversight. This role ensures that patient care delivery meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency while aligning with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.  The Executive Director partners closely with medical staff, nursing leadership, and administrative teams to drive excellence in clinical performance, regulatory compliance, patient satisfaction, and financial stewardship. Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of UK King’s Daughters (UKKD) and King’s Daughters Ohio. This position is also responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, financial performance, and patient experience of one or more physician practices or outpatient clinics. This role ensures efficient, high quality, and compliant operations that support physicians and care teams in delivering excellent patient care.  Serves as a primary liaison between providers, staff, and hospital administration, aligning practice goals with organizational strategy.
      This position will dual report to the site administrator for KDOH and also the VP/Executive Director of King’s Daughters Integrated Practices.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Lead strategic planning and execution for clinical service lines and physician practices to support organizational growth and quality goals
    • Develop and implement operational plans that enhance patient access, service line performance, and care coordination
    • Collaborate with executive leadership, medical directors, and department heads to align initiatives with system priorities
    • Oversee both hospital and outpatient workflows, ensuring continuity of care and operational efficiency
    • Manage daily operations hospital and outpatient clinical areas, including nursing, procedural units, diagnostic services and physician practices
    • Standardize processes and policies across sites to ensure consistent quality, safety, and patient experience
    • Monitor key performance indicators such as throughput, clinical outcomes, satisfaction, and staff productivity
    • Support integration of new service lines, technologies, and care models
    • Develop and manage budgets for assigned departments and practices, ensuring responsible financial stewardship
    • Analyze financial and operational data to identify performance trends and improvement opportunities
    • Collaborate with finance and revenue cycle teams to optimize billing, collections, and cost efficient
    • Lead business planning for growth initiatives, physician recruitment and capital projects
    • Ensure all operations comply with federal, state and local regulations, as well as Joint Commission and CMS standards
    • Partner with quality and risk management teams to promote evidence-based care and continuous improvement
    • Drive initiatives that improve patient safety, outcomes, and satisfaction across clinical settings
    • Recruit, mentor and evaluate department managers, practice managers and clinical leaders
    • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and professional development
    • Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among physicians, nurses, and administrative teams
    • Ensure training, credentialing, and performance standards are consistently met
    • Champion patient-centered care initiatives across all service lines and practices
    • Monitor patient feedback and satisfaction scores, implementing improvement strategies where needed
    • Collaborate with community partners, referral networks, and outreach programs to enhance patient access and engagement
    • Serve as the primary liaison between clinical operations, medical staff and executive leadership
    • Facilitate communication and coordination between hospital department and physician practices
    • Represent clinical operations at leadership committees, system planning meetings and board presentations
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, or related field required
      • Clinical background preferred (e.g. RN, APRN, RT, or other licensed professional)
      • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital or healthcare operations
      • Proven success managing multiple clinical departments or service lines
      • Strong background in quality improvement, performance metrics, and regulatory compliance
      • Strategic thinker with strong operational and financial acumen.
      • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
      • Demonstrated ability to lead complex change initiatives in a clinical environment
      • Proficiency with healthcare analytics, EHR systems, and operational reporting tools
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Completion of UKKD LEAD Academy.

    • This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers.
    • Occasionally requires travel to and from off-site locations
    • The noise level in this position is usually low.
