JOB SUMMARY

Works under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist and provides various technical support services related to inpatient Pharmacy services

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
-
Prepares and fills medication orders (unit dose, floor stock, and intravenous admixtures), medication kits/carts
-
Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.

Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
-
Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations (excludes automated dispensing cabinets)

Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications.

Answer requests and makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested
-
Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. Files documentation in appropriate locations.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
-
Minimum requirement:
-
High school diploma or GED
-
Maintains active Kentucky Board of Pharmacy registration
-
Must attain PTCB Pharmacy Technician certification based on one of the following criteria:
-
If completed a recognized PTCB Pharmacy Technician training program or has the equivalent work experience as a Pharmacy Technician (minimum 500 hour): Exam must be scheduled and attempted within 45 days of hire date and certification completion within 90 days of hire date

If no prior Pharmacy Technician work experience: Exam must be scheduled and attempted within 4 months of hire date (minimum 500 hours work completed) and certification completion within 6 months of hire date

Failure to obtain PTCB Pharmacy Technician certification within the time frames as indicated will result in removal from position or termination.

Preferred qualifications:
-
Six (6) months prior pharmacy experience

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Constantly works near moving mechanical parts

Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.

Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals

Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
