Pharmacy Tech-In Training (non-cert)

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Works under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist and provides various technical support services related to inpatient Pharmacy services
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Prepares and fills medication orders (unit dose, floor stock, and intravenous admixtures), medication kits/carts
    • Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
    • Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per established schedule
    • Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing medications and supplies in appropriate locations (excludes automated dispensing cabinets)
    • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable medications.
    • Answer requests and makes stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas when requested
    • Maintains logs, records, and other required documentation accurately.  Files documentation in appropriate locations.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • High school diploma or GED
      • Maintains active Kentucky Board of Pharmacy registration
      • Must attain PTCB Pharmacy Technician certification based on one of the following criteria: 
        • If completed a recognized PTCB Pharmacy Technician training program or has the equivalent work experience as a Pharmacy Technician (minimum 500 hour): Exam must be scheduled and attempted within 45 days of hire date and certification completion within 90 days of hire date
        • If no prior Pharmacy Technician work experience: Exam must be scheduled and attempted within 4 months of hire date (minimum 500 hours work completed) and certification completion within 6 months of hire date
      • Failure to obtain PTCB Pharmacy Technician certification within the time frames as indicated will result in removal from position or termination. 
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Six (6) months prior pharmacy experience
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
