Summary

      The Certified Medication Technician administers and monitors administration of Resident medication and treatment and provides nursing and related nursing services to residents consistent with each resident’s comprehensive assessment and plan of care.  Also provides direct resident care and ensures that same is provided in a manner that meets the resident’s physical, mental and psycho social needs and enables the individual to attain or maintain the highest practicable level of functioning.

  • Duties & Essential Functions
    • Makes daily rounds to review physical and emotional status and to inform charge nurse of any required nursing or medication interventions.
    • After consultation with licensed or registered nurse or physician, prepares, administers and documents medications following state and federal accepted practices.
    • Clarifies any order or treatments regimen believed to be inaccurate, ineffective or contraindicated by consulting with nursing personnel or physician.
    • Understands and remains current in the practice and rationale for the effect of medication and treatments and correctly administers the same.
    • Accurately reports and documents the Resident’s symptoms, responses and status.
    • Notifies the ordering physician and licensed or registered nurse when making the decision not to administer medication or treatment.
    • Monitors residents who self-administer medications and reports deviations from the plan of care to the licensed or registered nurse.
    • Secures medication cart.
  • Education/License/Certification/Other Requirements
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Minimum or a high school diploma or equivalent.  
      • Registered as a Certified Nursing Assistant with KY nurse aide registry.  
      • Certified by state as a Certified Medication Technician.
    • Preferred qualifications:
    • Minimum of six months experience as Certified Nursing Assistant and certified by state as a Certified Medication Technician.

  • Working Environment
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Physical Demands
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
