Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Clinical Weight Loss and Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Dietitian provides nutrition guidance and counseling to patiens through the development, implementation, and monitoring of dietary recommendations pertaining to weight loss. Provision of clinical nutrition care requires knowledge of the principles of weight loss and the ability to analyze data, assess nutrition status and formulate nutrition care plans. 
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
    • Assesses the Clinical and metabolic and bariatric surgery patient by screening the medical record completing a comprehensive assessment based on medical record data and interview with the patient: and by assessing the patient based on religious, cultural and ethnic preferences. 
    • Recommends appropriate nutrition intervention to the patient based on subjective and objective data; including but not limited to, protein parameters, iron level, vitamin levels and calcium levels.
    • Educates patient based on cultural, religious and ethnic preferences.
    • Evaluates and develops individualized patient education materials based on patient's age and comprehension levels. 
    • Provides appropriate resources and education according to identified need.
    • Documents education provided, including evidence of family teaching (if applicable), measurable understanding or principles discussed, and assessment of anticipated adherence.
    • Participates in patient group teaching as needed.
    • Serves as a nutrition educator by providing education, lectures and programs to team members, patients and community
    • Identifies issues, collects, evaluates, and reports data as assigned.
    • Participates in problem solving and resolution of issues as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
      • Maintains Registered Dietitian credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
      • Maintains active dietitian license in the State of Kentucky and Ohio.
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • One year experience
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Frequently exposed to wet and humid conditions and extreme heat.
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts.
    • Constantlyexposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold.
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation.
    • Frequent stress associated with management of conflict situations, deadlines, change, employee vacancy and regulatory changes.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting)
    • Frequently required to walk and move about throughout the department and Medical Center.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices
    • Frequently required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 25 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
