Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • The Unit-based Educator- Clinical (RN) assesses learning needs, develops, teaches and evaluates completion of education programs, mandatory validations and competencies of the bedside clinical staff for their assigned unit(s). The Unit-based Educator- Clinical (RN) supports the development of the bedside nurse, fostering knowledge to achieve high quality outcomes through the delivery of evidence based nursing practice, as well as provides educational support. In collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Leader, Manager of Learning Services, and the Director of Education, the Educator works to identify educational opportunities to improve overall quality of care.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Coordinates the unit-specific orientation of new hires and assures competency validations are completed within the first 90 days.  Serves as mentor to new Team Members; assessing adequacy of orientation and training to promote the success and retention of the Team Member.
    • Guides new Team Member skill development and facilitates integration in their department.  Is actively involved in new Team Member review/evaluations, in collaboration with the Clinical Nurse Leader.
    • Prepares short and long term training programs to address identified needs of the team.  Develops and delivers training and development programs.  Consults with leaders to coordinate such training to avoid duplication of services.
    • Holds Team Members accountable in care delivery and provides coaching when necessary.  Provides feedback to Clinical Nurse Leader regarding performance for recognition and coaching opportunities.
    • Facilitates accurate and timely documentation practices, including proficient use of electronic health record functionality.
    • Collaborates with nursing leadership in development of core and annual competencies for clinical Team Members; designs and offers competency validation processes. Assists the Clinical Nurse Leader in scheduling mandatory education and reporting to the Clinical Nurse Leader when Team Members do not complete scheduled and/or attend mandatory education.
    • Assists in maintenance of standard of excellence necessary to meet or exceed the accreditation and certification requirements and all applicable state and federal requirements.
    • Auditing of charts, including running real-time audits of identified unit-specific deficiencies in charting. Remediates Team Members in charting deficiencies, provides coaching to improve, and provides feedback to Clinical Nurse Leader when improvement is not demonstrated.
    • Must maintain minimum competencies as a bedside nurse for their unit(s) and function in that role as necessary.
    • Will be required to flex to provide education on some evenings, nights, and weekends to adequately educate/assist all staff.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) with expressed interest in and actively seeking BSN within the first 2 years in this role.
      • Maintains active RN license in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and any other states as applicable. 
      • Two or more years of applicable practice in the field or equivalent experience, preferably with unit-based area(s) skills set.
      • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
      • Achieves and maintains Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and familiarity with Access and Excel.
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field.

    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
