Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Protects life and property of all persons on Medical Center premises and patrols Medical Center buildings and grounds to prevent fires, theft, vandalism, illegal entry and enforces parking regulations, unlock doors, deliver newspapers, assist funeral directors with transportation, escort customers as needed.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Assures and operates security equipment and systems such as CCTV, access control, burglar alarms, and others are continuously in good working order by conducting maintenance and inspections as needed.
    • Warns violators of rule infractions, such as smoking and carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts, watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
    • Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons and permits authorized persons to enter property.
    • Documents activities on Daily Activity Report, maintains current information in lost and found logs.
    • Investigates incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Medical Center staff, visitors, physicians or patients.
    • Assists medical personnel in controlling hostile or combative patients.
    • Remembers the Medical Center's emergency policies and procedures and effectively responds to codes and emergency situations.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
      • Associate Degree in related field or one year prior security experience.
      • Achieves and maintains the following certifications within 90 days of start: 
        • Taser certification. 
        • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI). 
      • Valid driver's license, clean driving history, and clear criminal history are required for those driving KDMC vehicles. Any previous criminal convictions, poor driving history and poor past employment history could be reasons for disqualification.
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Achieves and maintains International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS) Healthcare Security Officer certification.

  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • While performing the duties of this job, the team member frequently works in outside weather conditions.
    • Occasionally exposed to heat and cold extremes and temperature changes; seldom exposed to loud noises; occasionally exposed to moderate, noise; seldom exposed to vibration, toxic conditions, odors, dust, and poor ventilation.
    • Occasionally exposed to hazards or risk of bodily injury.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move patients up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients, customers and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
