Summary

JOB SUMMARY
-
Responsible for providing massage-based physical evaluations of assigned patients and clients and to apply a range of appropriate therapeutic treatments, to include manual massage therapy. Develops and implements therapeutic massage treatments and individual treatment plans.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
-
Applies appropriate physical evaluation techniques to determine posture, gait, ROM, muscle strength, and joint stability.
-
Develops a wide range of treatment plans, as appropriate to clinical data, provider prescribed protocol, and/or subject’s medical history.

Performs manual therapy techniques, including such techniques as St. John’s Neuromuscular therapy, soft tissue mobilization, and joint placement.

Operates therapeutic devices to include devices for the application of electrotherapy, ultrasound, heat, cold, iontophoresis, biofeedback, and compression.

Documents therapy in accordance with policies and procedures regarding medical records; implements and adheres to policies which ensure patient confidentiality.

Provides education/in-services for patients, clinicians, family members, and the community regarding the indications and benefits of medical massage therapy as needed.

Attends continuing education events, as appropriate.

Performs other miscellaneous job-related duties, as assigned.

Reports broken or faulty equipment to appropriate persons and shares in the responsibility for evaluating new equipment.

Considers the total patient with appreciation for the patient’s individuality in the implementation of care for the patients.

Gives oral and written instructions to patients documenting these in the patient’s chart and including the patient’s understanding.

Works cooperatively and collaboratively with other team members and KDMC Departments.

Supports compliance with regulatory standards to include but not limited Joint Commission, State, Medicare, Medicaid, OSHA, insurance agencies etc.

Complies with the policies and procedures of KDMC and department.

Complies with Medical Center’s Medical Records requirements.

Understands and complies with work rules and safety regulations.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
-
Minimum requirement:
-
High School Diploma or GED
-
Completion of basic curriculum for Therapeutic Massage from an accredited School of Massage Therapy required.
-
Maintains active Massage Therapy License for Kentucky and/or Ohio.
-
Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
-
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:
-
3 years or more previous massage therapy work experience in therapeutic massage preferred.
-
Associate or Bachelor Degree in Massage Therapy or Bodywork or other health related field preferred.

Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.

Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
