Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Responsible for performing a variety of duties supporting the medical provider (physician and/or mid- level). They may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services. 
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Obtains, verifies, and records health history of patients.
    • Gathers pertinent health data through screenings collects specimens for laboratory analysis.
    • Provides basic patient care as ordered; administers medications and treatments as directed, assists other health care professionals in performing exams, diagnostic procedures and treatments, and minor medical procedures.
    • Adheres to infection control/safety guidelines and confidentiality policies, documents screenings, interventions, patient/family responses, medication dispensed/prescribed, and test results in medical records; promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
    • Checks schedules, organizes patient flow, fulfills  clerical responsibilities; ie: patient registrations, check in/out, scheduling, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes and referral information, verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics, stocking exam rooms, sorting supplies.
    • Fulfills facilitator responsibilities which may include medical/surgical asepsis, sterilization, instrument wrapping, and autoclaving; checking vital signs, physical exam preparations, prescription verifications with Physician’s orders, minor surgery assists including surgical tray set-up pre/post-surgical care, applying dressings, and suture removal, biohazard waste disposal and monitoring, therapeutic modalities, instructing patients with assistive devices, body mechanics and home care.
    • PO Facilitators must adhere to the direct supervision of the healthcare provider (Physician and/or mid-level)
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) or currently enrolled in High School or GED program in active pursuit of H.S. Diploma or GED.
      • Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited vocational institution or community college, Medical Assistant Certification or (1) year recent Documented experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office in a similar role
      • Must maintain AHA BLS Certification
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Three to Five years  documented experience within healthcare organization or medical office.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
