Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Provides health care services to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing Magnetic Resonance procedures to be interpreted by a Radiologist, exercising professional judgment in performance of MRI services, maintaining a professional demeanor complimentary to medical ethics, providing appropriate patient care and recognizing patient conditions for completion of the highest quality MRI examination.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient’s clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member.
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Screens all patients and medical personnel for MRI safety compatibility. Applies principles of MRI safety to minimize risk of patient, self and others.
    • Selects and operates MRI systems, surface coils, physiologic gating devices, monitors and all associated equipment to achieve desired results.  Positions patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic region of interest while respecting patient ability and comfort. Observes to recognize changes in patient behavior indicating patient distress (seizure, aspiration, choking, struggling, coughing, artifact causing motion, etc) and takes action as necessary.  Evaluates images for technical quality, manipulates display parameters and provides hard copy records (film) assuring proper patient identification is recorded on each image.
    • Maintains archival storage of digitized data.
    • Demonstrates competency and knowledge in methodology of venipuncture including visual activity and digital sensitivity for vein selection and accurate manual dexterity to work with small needles and accurately place them in patient’s veins. Identifies and administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
    • Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director.  Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed.  Performs quality assurance scans.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Graduate of an Accredited J.R.C Radiologic Technologist program or equivalent. 
      • Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
      • Advanced ARRT certification in MR
      • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Maintains active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
