Summary

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Reports to the Dir-Systems Infrastructure/Development, responsibilities include managing the daily operations of the organizations data centers, along with the following items: Installing physical hardware components into racks, including servers and networking hardware. Monitoring and maintaining proper environmental conditions in terms of temperature and humidity to ensure the proper operation of data center components. Responsible for installing and upgrading software solutions that monitor data center assets as well as environmental conditions that includes proper alerting and notifications for critical data center events. Maintain asset system with all data center components. Create visio diagrams of server rack components with high level wiring layouts. Will work closely with plant operations during fire alarm, UPS, and generator testing and directly with IST systems and networking infrastructure groups.
  • DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Interface with plant operations for diagnosing data center alarm as well as testing critical systems within the data center.
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Interface directly with IST Infrastructure groups regarding equipment and design tasks.
    • Install physical server and networking hardware components into data center racks.
    • Install, update, and manage software technologies that monitor data center assets and environmental conditions.
    • Configure and conduct routine testing for critical environmental and data center alerts.
    • Maintain asset system with all data center assets by locations.
    • Provide inventories and quotes for spare equipment and cabling needs for each data center.
    • Create visio diagrams of server rack components with high level wiring layouts.
    • Perform routine walkthroughs to discover failed components that may need replaced or are no longer redundant.
    • Work with outside vendors for scheduling routine maintenance tasks within all data centers.
    • Must have working knowledge of data center design, cabling, redundancy technologies.
    • Must have working knowledge of networking, storage area network, firewalls, load balancers, and virtualization technologies.
    • Must have working knowledge of active directory, DNS, and DHCP services.
    • Must follow decommissioning protocols of retired hardware and disk drives.
    • Must be able to communicate clearly with multiple groups in order to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience.
      • 2 – 4 years of real world experience with enterprise/infrastructure level technologies.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Works in an office and data center environment.
    • This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers.
    • Must be effective in a fast-paced, quality focused, multi-priority environment requiring the ability to prioritize workload in order to meet deadlines.
    • Occasionally requires travel to and from off-site locations
    • May experience some mental/visual fatigue due to continued use of computer equipment.
    • The noise level in this position is usually low
    • Provides 24/7 support and wears a pager.
