Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for managing and directing emergency and non-emergency calls for medical services. Coordinates and dispatches ambulances, schedules transports, and assists with air traffic control for medical helicopters. Operates radio, telephone, and computer equipment to relay critical information to appropriate hospital personnel. Ensures accurate call intake and timely communication with EMS units. Facilitates efficient and effective emergency response operations.


Essential Functions

• Answers and prioritizes incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, obtaining and recording critical information promptly and accurately.

• Dispatches, coordinates, and monitors ambulance, aircraft, and ground units, ensuring optimal resource utilization and timely response.

• Enters, updates, and retrieves information in computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and other systems, maintaining accurate and complete records of all transport activities.

• Provides pre-arrival instructions and assistance within scope of practice, including CPR, choking intervention, and bleeding control.

• Communicates and collaborates effectively with internal teams, external agencies, and the public, ensuring clear information exchange and cross-department coordination.

• Demonstrates competency in operating communications equipment and technology, including radios, telephones, and CCTV monitors.

• Oversees and supports team performance, including scheduling, training, mentoring new staff, and maintaining adherence to quality standards and established practices.

• Promotes and demonstrates excellent customer service skills, professionalism, and calmness in high-stress situations.

• Maintains professional growth and participates in ongoing education, councils, and committees to enhance skills and knowledge.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent experience



Experience Requirement

0-1 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.


Certifications & Licensures

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), dispatching Certified from The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International, Basic Life Support (BLS)

Physical Demands

Also involves occasional risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job and occasional exposure to loud noises and combative or violent people.
