Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for assisting with the preparing histologic slides from tissue sections under supervision. Supports accurate processing for microscopic examination and helps pathologists in diagnostic evaluation. Follows quality and safety standards while learning laboratory procedures. Coordinates basic workflow tasks to meet laboratory requirements.


Essential Functions

• Prepares and processes human and animal tissue specimens for histologic examination.

• Cuts, mounts, and stains tissue samples using routine and specialized techniques.

• Assigns identification numbers to all pathology specimens.

• Maintains properly indexed files of slides and paraffin blocks.

• Prepares reagents, stains, and solutions for tissue processing.

• Monitors and maintains equipment, instruments, and related maintenance records.

• Maintains accurate logs, control data, and standards for quality assurance.

• Updates and follows procedures manuals and safety materials.

• Supports process improvement initiatives within the laboratory.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent with enrollment in secondary education with a minimum 60 semester hours completed.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
