Job Summary

Responsible for providing daily care to high acuity patient populations and supporting clinic operations by serving in a lead role for other medical assistant staff. Collaborates with clinic supervisors to orient and train new staff, and assists in developing programs and processes to enhance the role of unlicensed assistive personnel. Supports initiatives to improve clinical outcomes and participates in process improvement activities. Communicates effectively with healthcare team members and represents the clinic positively while upholding service excellence and organizational values. Ensures both clinical and administrative duties are performed to optimize patient care and clinic efficiency.


Essential Functions

• Checks in and checks out patients, schedules tests and procedures, and verifies insurance coverage and authorizations.

• Prepares charts, enters charges, completes required paperwork, and maintains accurate medical records and documentation.

• Performs medical necessity checks, gathers and records health history, vital signs, and other pertinent data.

• Responds to patient phone calls, documents requests, and communicates with clinical staff and providers as needed.

• Provides basic patient care, performs point-of-care skills and clinical procedures within certification, and administers medications.

• Demonstrates service excellence, maintains patient privacy, and engages in patient and employee satisfaction initiatives.

• Works efficiently, prioritizes tasks, improves workflow, and collaborates within the interdisciplinary team.

• Assumes responsibility for professional development, completes required competencies, maintains certifications, and serves as a preceptor for new staff.

• Adheres to infection control, safety, and confidentiality guidelines, and supports wellness through patient/family education.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area



Experience Requirement

2-5 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.


Certifications & Licensures

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), Basic Life Support (BLS)
