Job Description:

Job Summary

Responsible for transferring patients safely to and from private homes, nursing facilities, and hospitals. Responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill and injured patients. Transports patients promptly to medical facilities. Ensures patient safety and well-being throughout transport and emergency care. Collaborates with healthcare teams to deliver pre-hospital medical services.


Essential Functions

• Transports patients to and from homes, nursing facilities, and hospitals, following dispatcher instructions and maintaining patient privacy.

• Operates KDMT vehicles safely, manages routes efficiently, and communicates with dispatch teams.

• Conducts daily vehicle and equipment inspections, ensures cleanliness, and replenishes medical supplies as needed.

• Administers medical treatment and transports sick or injured persons to or between medical facilities.

• Removes or assists in removal of patients from accident or incident scenes, assesses illness or injury, and establishes appropriate treatment.

• Assists admitting personnel in obtaining and recording patient vital statistics and transfer details.

• Schedules truck crew and ambulette drivers, issues disciplinary action, and participates in quality improvement and assurance activities.

• Performs advanced clinical tasks, including thoracostomy tube insertion, central and arterial line maintenance, CNS catheter maintenance, RSI, and surgical cricothyrotomy.

• Initiates and transports critical care medications, antibiotics, blood products, chemical restraints, and maintains balloon pumps without RN assistance.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area



Experience Requirement

5-7 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.


Certifications & Licensures

CPR Certified, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Paramedic, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) Certified

Physical Demands

This position requires regular lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; regular standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds and up to 25 pounds; regular risk of back injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; regular risk of injuries from use of equipment on the job; regular exposure to cuts or punctures; and regular exposure to bloodborne or airborne pathogens. It also requires intermittent lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects over 50 pounds; intermittent performance of repetitive motions; intermittent working in confined spaces; intermittent job-related travel; and intermittent exposure to loud noises, temperature extremes, hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, and combative or violent people. Occasional sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods, occasional working at heights above 4 feet, and occasional exposure to burns may also be required.
