Job Summary
Responsible for preparing, compounding, and dispensing sterile and non-sterile medications in accordance with regulatory standards and organizational protocols. Maintains inventory by ordering, storing, dating, and replenishing medications and supplies, including automated dispensing cabinets. Delivers patient-specific medication orders efficiently and accurately to assigned areas and provides customer service to patients and healthcare professionals. Assists in training new technicians, interns, and students, and ensures cleanliness and compliance in all work environments. Coordinates with pharmacy, clinical staff, and ambulatory clinics to maximize patient care, monitor medication processes, and support continuous quality improvement.
Essential Functions
• Gathers components, measures ingredients, and compounds sterile and non-sterile preparations under pharmacist supervision.
• Packages and labels patient-specific medication doses in compliance with regulations.
• Conducts and supports compliance initiatives.
• Assists in training and validating compounding personnel in aseptic and good manufacturing practices.
• Prepares and participates in the delivery of medication doses, including unit dose transport systems.
• Restocks and replenishes automated dispensing cabinets, including controlled substances and sterile products.
• Manages medication inventory, monitors stock levels, rotates stock, and recycles doses per policy.
• Provides customer service to patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring medication availability and communication during patient transfers.
• Supports the education of trainees, students, and observers in compounding practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area
Experience Requirement
0–2 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures
Nationally certified Pharmacy Technician by either PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT)
