Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for leading physician education and outreach initiatives to improve clinical documentation, coding accuracy, and regulatory compliance. Provides expertise in designing and delivering training programs that enhance physician understanding of documentation standards, coding guidelines, and reimbursement requirements. Ensures alignment with organizational policies, payer regulations, and national quality reporting programs. Coordinates with providers, coding staff, and compliance teams to resolve documentation challenges and strengthen collaboration between physicians and revenue cycle operations. Develops strategies to drive continuous improvement in documentation quality, patient outcomes, and organizational performance.
Essential Functions
• Designs, develops, and delivers advanced education programs for physicians on clinical documentation, coding, and compliance requirements.
• Provides one-on-one and group training sessions tailored to physician specialties and practice patterns.
• Collaborates with coding, compliance, and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams to identify documentation gaps and develop targeted education.
• Reviews medical records and audit findings to provide feedback and guidance to physicians.
• Ensures physician education materials remain current with CMS, OIG, and payer regulations.
• Serves as a liaison between providers and revenue cycle staff to resolve documentation and coding issues.
• Tracks and analyzes physician education outcomes and prepares reports for leadership.
• Supports organizational readiness for audits, regulatory reviews, and quality reporting initiatives.
• Mentors and provides guidance to junior education and outreach staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree
Experience Requirement: 5+ years of experience
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures: RHIA Certification, CPMA, CCDS, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
