Job Summary

Responsible for delivering comprehensive respiratory care through airway management, mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis, oxygen and aerosol therapies, and patient education. Ensures accurate documentation of patient care activities and therapy results in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. Coordinates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to optimize patient outcomes and support care plans. Maintains and orders necessary supplies for respiratory services and pulmonary function labs. Facilitates referrals, resource coordination, and patient education across inpatient, outpatient, and outreach clinic settings.


Essential Functions

• Provides competent patient care through airway management, therapies, oxygen administration, ventilator management, and arterial analysis.

• Assesses and responds to all patient care needs related to the pulmonary system.

• Documents patient care activities, therapies, and results according to policy and regulatory requirements.

• Communicates with healthcare team members to ensure quality patient care and effective handoffs.

• Reports patient care issues to management as needed.

• Maintains active state licensure, completes competency requirements, and fulfills employee health and safety standards.

• Meets standards for point of care testing and adheres to departmental policies.

• Precepts and supports orientees, less experienced staff, and learners across disciplines.

• Educates and trains interdisciplinary team members on respiratory care responsibilities and equipment.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training from an accredited Respiratory therapyprogram


Experience Requirement

2-5 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

All experience must be paid and in the same related field.

Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.

Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.


Certifications & Licensures

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), Basic Life Support (BLS)

Based on assigned area: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advances Life Support (PALS), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI)
