JOB SUMMARY

The dispatcher-call taker position involves taking calls for scheduling and dispatching non-emergency medical services as well as emergency dispatching. Required to operate radio, telephone, or computer equipment at dispatch center and relay information to crews.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
-
Determines priorities and coordinates dispatching of ambulance and ambulette crews on emergency, immediate, and prescheduled calls. Maintains contact with, and updates status and location of, all designated units.

Enter, update, and retrieve information from a wide variety of computer systems. Operates a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles and telephones.

Can effectively coordinate with other emergency services for mutual aid or support.

Answers questions and provides information to the public over the telephone.

Uses good judgment in making decisions in emergency and routine situations.

Views CCTV monitors reporting concerns to KDMC Security Officers.

Charge Dispatcher-Call Taker additional duties include scheduling dispatchers-call takers, billing, processing patient transport reports for outside billing and overseeing day-to-day operations of the dispatch office.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
-
Minimum requirement:
-
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
-
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or obtain within 90 days of hire

Current Driver’s License

Preferred qualifications:
-
One year prior EMS or dispatch related experience

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a professional office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers and telephone.
