JOB SUMMARY
-
The Telephone Triage Nurse provides interactive clinical communication with callers during and after physician’s routing office hours in an effort to give personalized assistance with health management concerns by providing information, education and guidance for patients that contact the nurse triage/access Center. The Telephone Triage Nurse must use expert interviewing skills while offering an empathetic approach to callers. Includes Pediatric and Adult practice.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:

Answers the telephone triage line in a timely and courteous manner.

Acts as a conduit to secure electronic medical record system for patients that request appointments, prescriptions and consultation for routine and urgent needs.

Advises callers and directs them to appropriate level of care and makes appropriate and independent / collaborative decisions in order to select the appropriate triage plan, by following accepted protocols and documents in EPIC accordingly.

Works closely with physicians, urgent care staff, office staff and other referral centers to assure accurate information and user-friendly processes.

Stays up to date with KDMC services, hours of operation and resources as well as diseases, procedures, diagnostics, treatments, and medications.

Performs follow-up calls within hours of initial contact.

Participates in data collection and interprets information to apply to improvement of processes.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
-
Minimum requirement:
-
Graduate of an accredited nursing program for Registered Nurses.

3-5 years of acute care nursing experience
-
Current active RN license in the States of Kentucky/West Virginia and Ohio.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

The setting is an open office setting behind a computer with a telephone.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low.

Regularly required to maintain a stationary position behind a computer.

Regularly required to communicate with callers telephonically requiring talking and hearing.

Frequently required to operate a computer and telephone.
