Pharmacy Resident-PGY1

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • PGY-1 Pharmacy Residents are provided the opportunity to accelerate their growth beyond entry-level professional competence in direct patient care and in practice management and to further the development of leadership skills that can be applied in any position and in any practice setting. Residents also spend a portion of their work hours functioning as a Staff Pharmacist in the provision of prescribed pharmaceuticals, medications, information and clinical monitoring for adequate patient care according to professional standards and practices.  Residents must also complete the requirements set forth by ASHP in the Accreditation Standards for PGY1 Pharmacy Residencies in the agreed upon 1 year term of employment.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Designs, executes, and reports results of investigations of pharmacy practice-related issues.
    • Establishes a collaborative working relationship with physicians and other health care providers in the health system.
    • Designs, recommends, monitors, and evaluates patient-specific therapeutic regimens that incorporate the principles of evidence-based medicine.
    • Provides concise, applicable, comprehensive, and timely responses to requests for drug information from patients, health care providers, and the public.
    • Documents direct patient-care activities appropriately.
    • Participates in the components of disease management: identification of need for, development, implementation, and assessment of treatment guidelines and protocols related to individual and population-based patient care.
    • Prepares and dispenses medications following existing standards of practice and the health system’s policies and procedures.
    • Participates in formulary management via Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (including medication-use evaluation (MUE), class review, and new drug evaluation).
    • Prepares and disseminates written drug information.
    • Participates in various planning and development programs within the department.
    • Utilizes pharmacy technical and clerical personnel effectively.
    • Provides instruction to pharmacy technicians, students, residents, and pharmacists.
    • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
    • Completes required education assignments.
    • Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
      • Compounds, labels, and packages medications and pharmaceuticals.
      • Supervises technicians filling of inpatient prescriptions and admixture of intravenous medications.
      • Ensures secure storage of narcotics and other controlled substances on a regular basis.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or a PharmD degree.
      • Licensed pharmacist in Kentucky and Ohio by September 30th of the residency year
    • Preferred qualifications:
      • Membership in professional organization
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Works indoors in an office/clinic setting
    • The noise level is usually moderate

    • Constantly required to maintain a stationary position behind a computer.
