Rad Tech-Mammography (Cert)

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis and treatment. Performs medical imaging techniques and related procedures to demonstrate breast anatomy for interpretation by, or, at the request of a licensed practitioner.
  • DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
    • Verifies order and patient prior to examination, obtain patient’s clinical history, reads chart/outpatient referral slip and interviews and communicates information to patient or appropriate family member.
    • Performs breast imaging procedures.  Operates mammography equipment and accessories after demonstrating competency in theory and practical application of mammography technique, including; hospital, radiology & mammography policies, equipment operation, needle localization procedures and image processing.
    • Positions patients as required for appropriate examination, explaining the need for breast compression during mammography. Must have knowledge and training to apply proper amount of compression to obtain optimal image without causing injury to patient.
    • Assists license practitioner during interventional procedures, needle localizations and needle aspirations. Performs radiography of pathologic breast specimen with speed and technical accuracy.
    • Evaluates mammograms for technical quality, establishing that proper patient identification is recorded of each radiograph.
    • Practices principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others at all times.
    • Performs quality control testing on equipment and promptly reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor or Radiology Administrative Director. Contacts field engineer for equipment service as needed.

  • EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Minimum requirement:
      • Graduate of a Committee of Allied Health Education and Accredited (CAHEA) radiography program or equivalent
      • Maintains active certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
      • Maintains active Radiographer Operators Certificate (ROC) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky or other applicable states as needed.
      • Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
      • Advanced ARRT certification in Mammography obtained within 12 months of beginning the position.
    • Preferred qualifications:
  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT
    • Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
    • Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection. 
    • Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
    • Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
    • Frequently required to walk and move about.
    • Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
    • Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
    • Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
    • Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
    • Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing. 
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
    • Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
