Job Summary

Responsible for performing advanced diagnostic ultrasound imaging procedures across diverse patient populations in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings. Utilizes expert knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to obtain high-quality diagnostic images that assist in accurate medical decision-making. Ensures safe, compassionate, and patient-focused care while adhering to established protocols and accreditation standards. Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support efficient workflow, quality assurance, and continuous improvement in imaging services. Maintains professional certification and demonstrates ongoing competency in specialized ultrasound modalities.


Essential Functions

• Performs a wide range of complex sonographic examinations, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, musculoskeletal, and small-parts studies.

• Reviews physician orders, verifies patient identity, and obtains relevant clinical history to tailor imaging approaches.

• Optimizes imaging parameters and techniques to produce diagnostic-quality images across diverse patient populations and conditions.

• Assists providers with ultrasound-guided procedures, ensuring patient safety, sterile technique, and procedural accuracy.

• Communicates effectively with patients and families, providing education, reassurance, and emotional support.

• Maintains and calibrates ultrasound equipment, ensuring readiness, cleanliness, and compliance with infection control standards.

• Documents and manages imaging data, measurements, and reports accurately within electronic health record systems.

• Adheres to departmental protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure accreditation compliance.

• Participates in continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and professional development activities.

• Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area

Experience Requirement

2-5 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area


An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.


Certifications & Licensures

American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography certified REGISTERED VASCULAR TECHNOLOGIST (RVT). The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists credentialed as Registered Technologist in Vascular Sonography (RT(VS)) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International certification as Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS).

Physical Demands
