JOB SUMMARY
-
The Cancer Registrar complies and maintains records of cancer patients as outlined in the Kentucky Cancer Registry Program and the American College of Surgeons.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Overall performance rating of below indicated essential job duties:
-
Reviews hospital records to identify and compile patient data for use in cancer management program and to comply with government regulations.

Reviews patient's medical record, abstracts and codes information such as demographic characteristics, history and extent of disease, diagnostic procedures and treatment, and enters data into KY state cancer registry cancer patient data management system (CPDMS) in a timely manner.

Assists with case-finding, and follow up per Commission on Cancer (COC) requirements. Assist with Commission on Cancer Accreditation

Maintains current follow up data on all patients diagnosed or treated at KDMC.

Prepares and distributes patient information for various tumor board meetings which includes obtaining all necessary information for accurate physician presentation. Attends meeting, maintains accurate minutes and updates spreadsheet with necessary information for compliance per COC.

Collaborates with Oncology Service Line to organize and plan multiple community events throughout the year.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/ CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirement:
-
Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two-year college.
-
Registrar must pass the Certified Tumor Registrar’s (CTR) examination within 2 years of the date of hire. The CTR credentials are granted through the National Cancer Registrars Association and provide details on eligibility, and testing. Once granted certification must be maintained.

Participants will be required to begin process for credentialing within the first year in position.

Possesses a working knowledge of medical terminology.
