Collects information pertaining to hospital associated infections. Provides feedback regarding infections to QM/IC, team members and physicians, in the areas in which they occur. Utilizes various methods of surveillance for case finding as outlined in the Infection Control Plan and as directed by the Infection Control Coordinator. Maintains records of hospital acquired infections to identify trends and if necessary initiate change in practice.

Services on the Infection Control Committee, Patient Safety Committee, JCAHO Readiness Committee, NPSG #7 Committee, and other committees as assigned. Prepares reports for Infection Control Committee meetings. Assists with maintenance of Infection Control minutes and records. Prepares regular reports of statistical data on hospital associated infections, as assigned, to provide content to the Infection Control Committee and clinical departments, medical staff and members of hospital administration for their review.

Assists in the implementation of recommendations of the Infection Control Committee and assists in the enforcement of existing policies pertaining to the development and implementation of improved patient care procedures. Works to recommend infection control measures that are cost effective to the institution. Assists in the evaluation and implementation of new products and equipment as related to infection control/employee health. Studies infection prevention & control literature to assess need for infection prevention and control strategies revision and subsequent policy revisions.

Participates in in-service education including new team member orientation and continuing education programs pertaining to prevention and control of hospital related infections.

Assists with the identification of quality, customer, infection control and employee health educational needs for patients, physicians, volunteers and team members. Participates in the development and delivery of education as needs are identified.

Serves as a liaison with local health departments to fulfill reporting requirements of selected infectious diseases as required by law.

Conducts studies as assigned as indicated by surveillance data. Investigates clusters of infection and single cases of unusual hospital associated infections. Reviews culture results from the microbiology section of the clinical laboratory. Utilizes the results for follow up in the clinical review of patient records.

Assists with maintenance of Infection Prevention & Control Committee meeting minutes and records.

Assists the organization to evaluate and maintain readiness for state and accrediting agency surveys
