JOB SUMMARY
-
The Dosimetrist (CMD/RTT) is responsible for designing and calculating complex radiation treatment plans in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist to ensure optimal tumor coverage and minimal dose to surrounding normal tissues. This professional also brings clinical expertise from their background in radiation therapy to enhance quality, safety, and workflow integration. The Dosimetrist ensures accurate dose calculations, assists with treatment simulations, and contributes to quality assurance protocols for the department. Assists manager with inventory control and quality assurance.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:

- Develops 3D, IMRT, VMAT, SRS, and SBRT treatment plans using advanced treatment planning systems
- Performs dose calculations and monitors dose distributions to ensure conformity with physician prescriptions and clinical standards.
- Assists with contouring and image fusion for simulation and planning purposes.
- Collaborates closely with Radiation Oncologists and Medical Physicists in treatment planning and plan approval processes.
- Supports simulation processes by providing setup information and participating in CT simulation as needed.
- Provides technical support to Radiation Therapists during the implementation of treatment plans.
- Performs and documents secondary dose calculations and plan checks for quality assurance.
- Contributes to departmental quality improvement, data collection, and protocol development.
- Maintains comprehensive and accurate treatment planning documentation.
- Provides education and mentoring for staff and students, drawing on experience as a Radiation Therapist.
- Participates in peer review and continuing education to stay current with industry standards and technologies
- Reviews patient treatment charts for accuracy, recordkeeping and necessary signatures
- Assists in summarizing treatment information when patients complete treatment
- Trains new staff in field of expertise
- Any and all other duties as assigned within the scope of practice

EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum requirement:
-
-
- Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy, Medical Dosimetry, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of clinical radiation therapy and dosimetry experience
- Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD).
- Registered Radiation Therapist (RTT) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Licensed to practice in Commonwealth of Kentucky
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
